ACT 1 board to hold annual meeting June 16

The ACT I of Benton County Board of Directors is holding the annual meeting Tuesday, June 16m at the ACT I Centre at 6:30 p.m. The address is 906 D Ave.   All actors, previous board members, crew, directors, and interested community members are invited to join the meeting.   We will be electing a new board member to replace outgoing member Sue Gates.

Basketball Tournament to Benefit Eastern Iowa Honor Flight

AMVETS plans Party in the Park Flea Market food booth

Benton County Amvets Post 218 will once again be providing a food booth at the 3rd Annual Evergreen Cemetery Flea Market. They will be grilling hotdogs, brats, hamburgers and bratburgers. Chips, water and pop will be available as well. The cost is a free-will donation. The money raised will go to help Veterans in need in the Benton County area.

Vinton Farmers Market again this Thursday, June 11

The Vinton Farmers Market will be held once again this Thursday, June 11th at the Vinton Railroad Depot from 5-7 PM. Here you will find the answer to all of your fresh produce, delicious baked goods and high-quality handicraft necessities. Merchants Grilling will be selling pork burgers and pulled pork and VPRD will have pop and chips on hand.

Iowa Learning Farms Field Day set for June 18 in Rowley

Iowa Learning Farms, along with the STRIPS project and the Iowa Cover Crop Working Group, will host a field day on Thursday, June 18, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Dick and Diana Sloan farm, rural Rowley. The STRIPS project, Science-based Trials of Rowcrops Integrated with Prairie Strips, is at Neal Smith Wildlife Refuge, Prairie City. The project focuses on planting a small percentage of a field into strips of perennial prairie plants to reduce soil erosion, water runoff, and to create habitat for pollinators.

Summer Reading Program begins; Blank Park Zoo visit Thursday

The annual Summer Reading Program at the Vinton Public Library is under way.  Participants can register any time at the library. All children who meet the requirements will be eligible to attned the free day at the Sky Zone indoor trampoline park in Cedar Rapids in August (parents must provide transportation). A favorite feature of the Summer Reading Program is the visit by the staff of Blank Park Zoo, which will bring a variety of animals for children to see.

Benton County Democrats to meet June 16 in Van Horne

American Legion Fish Fry set for June 12

The American Legion Post 57 fish fry will take place Friday, June 12, from 4-7 p.m. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children between 5 and 12, free for children under 5.
